For those of us that were hoping to sneak by the Saracen household to get a selfie of yourself standing in front of Matt Saracen’s (Zach Gilford) house, well, I am sorry to burst your bubble. But the famous tiny house from the beloved television series, Friday Night Lights, has been demolished! And now in its place is a much more modernized two-story home.
Trust me, I was in a state of shock when I found this out for myself and was filled with a sudden sadness that I would never get my chance to take that treasured selfie. In my opinion, the new house that replaced Grandma Saracen’s (Louanne Stephens) house is gosh ugly! The property would have been better served to restore the original house and this would have made the property so much more valuable. I just can’t imagine what this new property owner was thinking! Did he or she not watch the Friday Night Lights series? Had they watched this timeless series, surely they would have seen what a treasure this old house was.
Some of my fondest memories of the show happened in this house. Who remembers when Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) walked in and caught his daughter, Julie (Aimee Teagarden) and Matt in bed together? I am just not sure I would have been as composed as Coach Taylor and calmly walked out of the house and returned to his truck to wait for Julie to scamper out behind him. Or the time Coach Taylor brought Matt and his grandmother home from the hospital after Matt left his grandmother at home alone while he and Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) decided to get drunk at the local strip joint? Granda had somehow bumped her head and needed medical treatment. Once Coach Taylor got grandma Saracen settled in her bedroom, he demonstrated some fatherly tough love and grabbed Matt and drug him to the tiny bathroom and threw Matt in the shower, clothes and all. Coach Taylor then turned on the shower and told Matt it was time for him to straighten up and get his life together. The scene ended in a tender moment after Matt was screaming that everyone he loves eventually leaves him and wanted to know what was wrong with him. Coach Taylor responded by telling Matt that nothing is wrong with him.
Below, I am inserting a link to see what the new house looks like. My only hope is that Grandma Saracen took that money from her son’s death and had this home built for herself. 🙂
