In California, people visit wine country. In New York, everyone wants to see the Statue of Liberty or Times Square. What about when visiting Texas? Texas has beautiful beaches, sparse desert, big cities, and small towns. What is the one thing, though, that most Texans will tell you to experience during your visit? Many Texans have fond memories of Friday nights spent either playing for or watching their high school football team. Where can you go to experience this? How would one even begin to pick the places to visit? Thinking about this, the following is a list of ten of the best high school football stadiums in Texas (in no particular order) if you would like to visit one on a Friday over the

Home of the most dominant high school football team in Texas

It is hard to deny that if the Allen Eagles are not the pre-eminent team in Texas, they are in the conversation. In 2012 Allen won the first of six championships in their class and was crowned national champs by High School Football America three years. If you want to watch a lot of potential division one college football prospects then the Allen eagles are for you. Allen is a suburb of Dallas, so there is a lot to do the rest of the weekend as well.

Welcome to the Weirdest stadium in Texas

While the weirdest stadium may be pushing it, Rogan Field’s story and its location are pretty neat. The stadium is rather non-descript. It seats about 2500 and is your typical small-town high school football stadium. What makes it stand out is that the field was built on top of an old cemetery. Not only that, but all the graves were not removed before the stadium was built. The small stadium in San Saba, just about midway between Dallas and San Antonio in central Texas, has the nickname the graveyard and has a reputation for strange things happening from time to time. Could it be the referees?

Texas Football Forever Munson Stadium
Munson Stadium

The teams from Denison and Sherman, Texas, are not winning state championships regularly. However, this rivalry has all the makings of something special no matter where it is played. It goes back to 1901 and is considered the oldest rivalry in the state. They play the “Battle for the Axe” every year, with the winner getting the trophy until the next game. They play at Bearcat Stadium and Munson Stadium. Either one is an excellent place to see the oldest high school rivalry in Texas since they are only a few miles apart!

Another stadium you may want to check out is Bearcat Stadium in Aledo, Texas. A dominant team was mentioned earlier in the Allen Eagles with their championship run over the last decade. Another team right there with them is the Aledo Bearcats from Aledo, just west of Fort Worth. Aledo has won more state championships than any other school in the state. The stadium is always packed (Even though the stadium’s capacity is more than the town population!) The crowd is ready to get loud and rowdy. Aledo is also home to JoJo Earle, a four-star wide receiver. Earle committed to the University of Alabama as part of the 2021 class. If this is your idea of high school football, then head to Aledo, Texas on a Friday night.

A different reason to visit a stadium

John Kincaide Stadium

The last stadium on this list is here for a different reason. We have had dominant teams, beautiful skylines, cemeteries, and even exotic locations. Still, this last stadium is a must-see for different reasons. School districts in Texas build stadiums that host several schools in the community. This one is no different, but if you can make it to John Kincaide Stadium to watch North Dallas high school play, it is worth it. This is a school that, until this year, had the longest streak of not making the playoffs in Texas. Not a single playoff game since 1952.

According to TexasHighSchoolFootballHistory.com, this school also has more losses than any other team ever in the state. The stadium is your typical big Texas high school football stadium. Still, this school is doing something that most involved with the school have never experienced before. Go join the fans and jump on the bandwagon before North Dallas becomes the next dominant team in Texas high school football.
